Murphy, who lives in Scotch Plains and runs Bakehouse by Joe Murphy in New Providence, will be appearing on "Beat Bobby Flay" on the Food Network at 9 p.m.

On "Beat Bobby Flay" two contestants face off, cooking a dish for 20 minutes using a secret ingredient chosen by Flay. Two judges then decide which chef has the chance to beat Flay, and the winner gets their shot to challenge Flay with their signature dish. If the judges determine the chef made a better dish than Flay, they get to tell the world, "I beat Bobby Flay."

Flay has a win-loss record of 264-162. Murphy comes to the show with a good shot at knocking off the celebrity chef. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Murphy worked at Jean-Georges, being named one of the top 10 pastry chefs in the country, and was recognized with a 4-star review in the New York Times and three Michelin Stars.

He was global pastry director for Dean and Deluca and competed on Chopped Sweets in 2020. He opened Bakehouse in 2022.
